My Dabble in Cakes

So I have dabbled in cake making (mostly for birthdays or family holidays) and it's one of the dabbles that seems to keep coming back around. With most of my dabbling I jump in with two feet as if I am certain this is the best move for me. With cakes it kind of came out of necessity. I hated the first birthday cake I bought for my oldest sons birthday and from that moment on knew I had to at least try to make something better!
When I tell you baking brings me joy, I am telling you it feels like the first sunny day after a bunch of rainy ones when you walk outside and the warmth of the sun first hits your face. Like next level type of joy! I read cooking and baking books for fun and will share my finds with anyone who will listen.
Well this love has led me to saying things like I can make a nail polish shaped cake or I can make the space shuttle enterprise cake or I can learn how to pipe those flowers to make that cake. And it seems that each time I have a panic moment but then it always seems to come together. I have been making themed cakes for my nieces, nephews and kids since they were little and I hope they don't stop asking me for the most wild requests for all of their lives!
I have this not so secret desire to start a bakery someday but the thought of taking myself away from what little time I have with my kids actually wanting to spend every moment with me (which I know won't be forever) isn't really something I can handle. So for now I just bake what brings me joy!
I have never said no to a cake (even those that I was pretty sure should have been left to professionals). I share this mostly in the hopes that someone else might try to bake something new. I'm not saying you have to cover a cake with fondant or attempt any sort of script writing but definitely give some jarred icing and piping bags a try! It will taste delicious regardless!
